WOMEN WHO SHINE: LAUREL FANYA

She is the epitome of organic. A dancing nomad who grows vegetable gardens where ever she goes, Laurel was raised in the mountains of Humboldt by commie/hippies parents who preferred the sun and land to electricity and supermarkets.
As a result of her upbringing, Laurel has always had a strong connection to the earth. While photographing her, I remember asking for some chewing gum to which she replied by giving me some mint leaves to chew from her mint plant. I thought that was the greatest thing ever.
At this moment I thought to myself how unappreciative we are of mother nature. The earth truly provides us with all we need to survive, and if we took a little more time to acknowledge such things this world would be a better place.
Laurel, thank you for allowing me to see the earth as it should be seen. Thank you for inspiring me to put mother nature first. – Hassan Kinley
