THEOPHILUS LONDON: “HUMDRUM TOWN” + “I WANT YOU”

In Internet time, this song and video are ancient. But in reality, Theophilus London has only been around since 2009 with the release of his synth soul debut mixtape JAM. Since the style driven Brooklynite has been on the scene, the blogs have been buzzing about every new piece of material he puts out – his latest project being a mixtape called I Want You. Freshly signed to warner bros, Mr. London is set to release his debut full length in early 2011, working with a host of artists ranging from TV on the radios’ Dave Sitek to Santigold collaborator John hill. As Mr. London derives his musical inspiration from greats like Joy Division, David Byrne, Morrissey, Prince and of course MJ, we can expect a sexily diverse pop record with a hip-hop edge soft enough but tough enough to please an array of listeners.

Below is the video for the first single ‘I Want You’ directed by all around bad ass Va$htie

THE POOL PARTIES 2010 at the BROOKLYN WATER FRONT

The black Lips at the pool party 2009

The Brooklyn “Pool parties” – a series of seven free concerts taking place throughout July and August – returns this month to celebrate their fifth anniversary. Originally taking place  at the abandoned Mcarren park pool gave the event its name but do to its rising popularity, the location had to be changed to the Williamsburg waterfront. Talks of cancellation were floating around throughout the year, but thanks to senator Charles E.Schumor and his vigilant backing of the event, the concerts will be taking place as normally scheduled. This years line-up is quite impressive ranging from electro  powerhouse Chromeo to indie icon Deerhoof.

The firsts concert kicks off next Sunday July, 11th which will feature A friend of mine from back home who goes by the stage name PIctureplane {http://www.myspace.com/pictureplane}. So if you are at a loss for something to do for the next seven sundays the “Pool parties” got you covered!

You can view The Pool Parties’ website and full line-up here http://www.thepoolparties.com/

PETER ROSENBERG PRESENTS: an evening with {DAVID BANNER + 9th WONDER}

David Banner has come a long way from his days of booty raps and gun claps. He is quickly being established as an intelligent, articulate, and charismatic force to be reckoned with. And as for 9th wonder, if you have been paying attention-  is a man behind the boards whom every one wants a piece of right now in both the underground and mainstream arena’s. Needless to say, their upcoming project together titled Death of  a Popstar, expected to drop later this summer –  will be something to look forward to in this midst of what i imagine will be unbearable heat.

Peter Rosenberg of  Hot 97 will be sitting down with the two gents to discuss the philosophy behind Death of a Popstar tonight at 7:30 pm. The intimate event is located at 92Y Tribeca, 200 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10013 (right down the street from K+R headquarters). It is a free event, but space is limited and it is first come first serve. you can RSVP at the link below. Good luck!

HELEN MIRREN by {JUERGEN TELLER}

Juergen Teller continues his winning streak – making stylish, aggressive, sexy portraits of older women who resemble the stylish, aggressive, sexy older women that we actually know.  I thought what he did with Charlotte Rampling and Laura Dern in W was extremely cool.  Now he’s got Helen Mirren in a bath tub for New York Magazine and it’s heavenly.  I’ve been in love with her since “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover”.  Teller may be my new hero.
