THE CHOCOLATE REVOLUTION
Posted by lyle | Filed under Film + Video, Food + Drink, Have to Have
These dudes are not f#@*%ing around. The Mast brothers have… Mast-ered their craft to say the least. They have revived the rustic artisan ways of old world chocolate making and made it fresh and exciting – spearheading what they call the “The chocolate revolution”. And it is nothing short of that. This duo employ only the most hands on and meticulous methods when producing their product – from hand wrapping each individual bar with rustic hand printed butcher paper, to literally sailing their own cocoa beans in from South America and Africa. The brothers come from different backgrounds but share one unique common goal – to produce the most authentic and cared for chocolate in their city.
The Mast brother chocolate factory is located in the heart of Williamsburg on Berry and North 3rd, and you can pick their product up at any number of places throughout the city and throughout the country as far as San Francisco.

PENTAX’S SUPER CAMERA DEBUTS IN JAPAN
Posted by lyle | Filed under Have to Have

As the new 40MP Pentax 645 made it’s debut in Japan this month, the buzz generated from the super camera was larger than anticipated. Pentax recently opened a boutique at the Willyough’s imaging center in Manhattan, where the new medium format camera made its American debut this week. However, due to the high demand in Japan, the camera will not be available for purchase in America until orders in Japan are met. But Pentax representatives say that the camera could be available in the states as early as this fall. That is if you have about $11,000 thousand dollars laying around.

ALPA 12 TC
Posted by lyle | Filed under Art + Design, Have to Have, Photography
This thing looks FUN!
“The ideal travelling camera – there is nothing comparable. Some see the ALPA 12 TC as the digital successor of the defunct Hasselblad SWC but in any case, it is the smallest and lightest 6×9 roll-film camera for professionals. At the same time it is also the smallest and lightest digital camera with more than 60 MP. The 12 TC is fully integrated into the ALPA platform and all lenses, from the extreme 23-mm wide-angle to 250‑mm focal length can be used (of course only if the image circle is sufficient for the chosen format). Accessories can be attached on all four sides of the frame: for example a viewfinder, a small fingergrip, a massive handgrip, a flashlight, a spirit level, a small exposure meter or whatever else is required. The entire ALPA range of accessories is available together with many accessories from other manufacturers. ALPA is and remains an open system.”

Limited Edition Pentax K2000
Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Have to Have

Pentax’s K2000′s already gotten itself some… shall we say “glowing” reviews, but news that the DSLR will now come in a Limited Edition white is like icing on a super delicious cake. The camera will be exactly the same as its old-fangled black predecessor, and will come with custom white-and-black 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses. Considering the real lack of color in the DSLR category, some people should be pretty stoked when it goes on sale in February. An exact price wasn’t released, but the black K2000 runs about $800.

Sure, you could get them a plastic lens to mount on their digital camera, but this will look so much cooler coming out of the wrapping paper.
New Red Scarlet and Epic
Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Have to Have
The Scarlet will come with several lens mount options and will be able to shoot 3K @120fps (with still pictures at 4.9 megapixels) all the way up to 6K @30fps (at 9.4 megapixels). They’ll be priced as low as $2,500 but most likely will go over ten big ones for the better rigs.
The EPIC sensors will shoot from 5K @100fps (with still pictures at 13.8 megapixels) to 9K @50fps (at 65 megapixels), and the price range will range from $28,000 to over $45,000 when they are released in the Spring next year.
