DEBUT SCREENING OF “ORBIT” BY {KAREEM BLACK} PRESENTED BY GOOD PEOPLES

This past Wednesday 3.28.12; I had the pleasure of attending my friends directorial debut of ‘Orbit’ and it was nothing that can be described with words. The imagery by which he captures his subjects is beyond extraordinary. Kareem Black is one of todays greats and continues to change the visual concept of photography.
Orbit was originally conceived as a fine art print and video project for a small pole dancing company in NYC. When talking with the company’s owners, it was apparent that their main issue in the industry they worked so hard to establish themselves in, was the stigma attached to pole dancers, as seedy and stripper- related.
The idea was to rotate the imagery of these performers to appear anti-gravity, and to strip away any fashion and cultural references that were previously associated with the art form, and have the only focus being the athleticism and beauty of the body in air.
