Gathering artists from around the globe, BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG LOVE spotlights a variety of mediums. From light installations and sculpture to painting and photography, these ephemeral, subjective media demonstrate, question, and complicate the fragility and uncertainty of intimacy (and the seasonal nature of love).

New works by this acclaimed group challenge the properties, form, and function of light and color. Plus, many of the artists have created smaller, limited-edition pieces for our gift shop, such as ceramic vessels, snow globes, 1-foot cubes of assemblage art, and more.
Exhibition runs from Feb. 10 through March 31, 2012.

Featured artists: Ellie Pyle, Cisco Merel, Mark Reigelman, Mie Yim, Barbara Stanczak, Lauri Recanati, Richard Lund, Antonia Campanella.
A one night only fundraising art exhibition held at Gallery Bar
6:30-8:30 pm with gratis wine for the beginning half hour
All artwork is donated by the artists and is on sale for $100
100% of the proceeds goes directly to the EAC
$5 suggested door donation

“Artwork functions as a vessel, transporting particular emotions, passions and intentions from individual creators to the viewer. Along with these intentions come the identity of the artist and the implied value of the work.
In this exhibition we have stripped the artwork of the artists’ identity; by doing so the work must stand on its own. All the works share an affordable and identical price tag, therefore creating a dialogue that exists solely between viewer and the artwork. Each piece unidentified and equal, summoning the viewer to consider and connect to the piece on it’s own.
This event is reaching beyond standard gallery conventions by allowing the artwork and the audience to achieve something significant. Acting collectively by donating artwork, space and time, the artists and the audience will make a positive impact in aiding the efforts of the Eastern African Center.
This is Art for Soul.”

My work explores the continual struggle to integrate the dual worlds in which we exist: the external world which is the sum of our sensory experiences, and the inner world of our mind and emotions, and our physical and visceral existence.

It looks at the interdependence of contrasting and often contradictory realities or viewpoints; the idea that in order to truly appreciate beauty and light, one must allow for the necessity of the dark truths that are as much a part of our lives as the innate pull towards hope. Order and chaos, the cerebral and the instinctive, sacred and profane- each requires the other.

This is a space where there is the opportunity to begin to accept chance and accident. A place where one can surrender, if only for a moment, to loss of control and the freedom that this can bring, and where the boundaries of place and time are not relevant.

His documentary style mixed with intimacy became notorious when shooting for French Elle and featuring the country’s top models like Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, Naomi, Claudia Shiffer and Cindy Crawford; capturing them in their homes in a very personal setting just as they were reaching celebrity status. Verglas searches for truth through his lens and captures, exposes and delivers photographs that are not only beautiful but elemental and sensual, in essence conveying the message that reality is not what we see but truly what we discover and create.

Verglas captures and creates a forefront in fashion with a clear definition and a quality unique only to his eye. His photographs resonate with the need for our engagement and our emotional participation, impelling the audience to steal another intimate glance at the subjects with its mixture of sophistication and passionate innocence.

His creations have appeared internationally on the covers of Elle, Vogue, GQ, Esquire and Sports Illustrated, to list a few. Verglas’ stunning images have been auctioned at many houses including Christie’s, Philip de Pury and Milk Studio. A series of limited editions in Sepia print will be shown exclusively with Emmanuel Fremin Gallery during the upcoming Art Hamptons fair.

Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen, Photographs by Erica Simone

Press Release Contact: Hassan Kinley – nueyorkRSVP@gmail.com
For Immediate Release

Photography Exhibit:
April 14th, 2011 from 7pm to 10pm @ The Dash Gallery, 172 Duane Street, 10013 NYC

New York and Paris-based commercial and fine art photographer, Erica Simone, exhibits her collection “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen” during a solo show at the Dash Gallery from April 14 to April 28, 2011.

The art gallery, run by media mogul, Damon Dash, will exhibit approximately 20 photographs, sponsored by Uptown Fine Art Printing Studio, of Simone literally exposing herself all over New York City. From the streets to the subway, and from Bowery to the Bronx, Simone publicly bares all, raising the philosophy behind “just being,” as well as playing with the idea of “counter-fashion” – that without clothing, people could not possibly socially interpret each other.

Each image tells a story and each story conveys a unique experience for the artist. Erica Simone’s free-spirited philosophy, lack of inhibition and drive to express herself has made way for a provocative photographic project which raises controversy and questioning.

“Brave, humorous – but sexy, Nue York is a unique collection with wonderful energy. Erica Simone is a rising star in the photography world,” says Michael Klug, publisher of Whitewall Magazine.

Since 2005, Simone’s photographs have been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions all over New York City as well as in France, Germany, Cambodia and Lithuania. Aside from her Nue York collection, the Franco-American photographer has won various awards for her photography, including from National Geographic and PHOTO magazines and her work has been published in countless print and online magazines. Her passion for travel and humankind has brought her all over the world with her camera.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first U.S. museum survey to examine the late work of American artist Andy Warhol (1928–1987). Encompassing nearly fifty works, the exhibition reveals the artist’s vitality, energy, and renewed spirit of experimentation. During this time Warhol produced more works, in a considerable number of series and on a vastly larger scale, than at any other point in his forty-year career. It was a decade of great artistic development for him, during which a dramatic transformation of his style took place alongside the introduction of new techniques.
